Today the family and I went to the Pet Expo at the OC Fairgrounds. We saw lots of dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, fish, pigs, ponies, and alpacas. We also met with many rescue groups with so many pets up for adoption. They are doing great work.
But among the most fascinating was a group called BARK. And what this group does goes beyond typical therapy work. They use canine volunteers to encourage children to read. Because dogs don’t correct your pronunciation or judge your reading level, kids actually read better under less pressure. It’s a win, because these dogs love kids and kids will learn to love dogs and to read too!
Great group. Please check them out on Facebook

Here is a link about the UC Davis study that actually proves that kids reading to dogs really works!
