Secondhand smoke affects pets too

Do you ever smoke with your pets in the room? Are you aware smoking with your pets in the room has the same effect as smoking with another adult or child in the room? Sometimes it’s even worse when you have the pets in the same room because the animal could have problems that you don’t even know about.

Orange County pet owners that smoke around their pets are putting them at serious risk for a number of reasons. Those reasons include addiction, illness, and death.

It is said that nicotine can cause problems in the animal’s nervous system. It makes their brains and bodies become addicted to the nicotine putting them at risk of having nicotine withdrawals. This can make them fall very ill, and possibly cause death.

Your pets can form cancer cells just like humans can and possibly die from the cancer. They can develop nasal cancer as well as lung cancer. There are many more cancers that they can get and many other ways that they can get those cancers.

Third-hand smoking, which is when it is on your skin and clothes and your pet comes to love on you, works the same way. Once they do that they have the chemicals on them and when they groom themselves they put it inside their bodies.

Though there is more to it, this is the main reason you shouldn’t smoke around your animals. Now there are ways you can help your pets and non-smoking family members. You can just simply go outside and smoke by yourself.

If you are concerned about your pet’s smoke exposure consult your veterinarian. They can do a checkup and see if any damage has been done.
