Beef Bully Stick Recall, plus other treats updated October 2012

Boots and Barkley American Beef Bully Sticks have been recalled due to salmonella. This bacteria does pose a health hazard to pets and to humans handling the bully sticks or feces of the pet. So far no problems have been reported. Symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. All lots are being recalled by the manufacturer Kasel Associated Industries of Denver Colorado due to multiple lots testing positive at the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

The Bully Sticks (which are kinda gross in my opinion) were sold thru Target between April and September 2012.

For specific lot numbers and what to do if you need to return a package are below. If your pet did consume recalled product:

1) If your pet is not sick, stop feeding product. Consider probiotics to reduce possible Salmonella (we have excellent probiotics-healthy bacteria at our hospital). Wash your hands well after handling feces as dogs can become carriers.

2) If your pet has symptoms of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, lethargy) please bring him/her in along with packaging if possible. salmonella is treatable. Fortunately dogs are much more resilient than we are.

The product comes in a clear plastic bag containing 6 5 inch American Beef Bully Sticks marked with bar code number 647263899189.

If you have a package, please return it to Target for a refund. You may also contact Kasel Associated Industries at 1-800-218-4417 Monday thru Friday from 7am to 5pm MDT.

October 18th, 2012: The FDA reported Boots and Barkley Pig Ears and American Variety Pack Dog Treats are recalled due to Salmonella. The manufacturer, Kasel Industries also has recalled Nature’s Deli Chicken Jerky Dog treats (sold at Sam’s Club but not in California)
