1. Chocolate
Most people know that you shouldn’t give chocolate to dogs. Chocolate contains a compound called theobromine that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and heart problems in dogs. The darker the chocolate, then the more theobromine is in the chocolate.
2. Dairy products
The only milk products that are suitable for your pet dog is their mother’s milk. Many dogs (and, surprisingly cats) are lactose intolerant and milk and other dairy products will cause all sorts of digestive problems.
3. Avocados
Did you know that avocados can be poisonous to dogs? Don’t share guacamole or other avocado-based food with your pets. Avocados contain a substance called persin and it is found in the leaves, seeds, and bark of avocado plants.
4. Xylitol
Don’t share with your pet dog or cat any food products containing xylitol. This is a sweetener in many candies and baked goods. However, too much for your pet dog can cause liver problems, lethargy, and vomiting.
5. Onions and garlic
Too many onions and garlic can kill off red blood cells in your pet dog and cause anemia. Of course, a little once in a while won’t do any damage, but too much, and you might find that your pet dog shows signs of weakness and breathing problems.
6. Grapes and raisins
Don’t share your grapes or raisins with your pet dog as a treat. Believe it or not, grapes can cause severe kidney problems in dogs and make them sick.
7. Bones
It surprises many dog owners that bones aren’t among the best treats to give your dog. Raw bones can make your dog sick and there is a risk with raw and cooked bones that the splinter and get lodged in the digestive tract.
8. Some beverages never to share with your pet
Never share beverages containing caffeine with your pet. Caffeine in coffee, colas, and energy drinks can be fatal for a dog and can cause symptoms like restlessness and fast breathing. Of course, you should never share alcoholic drinks with any pet.
