The following is a story about Cpl. Wiens, and his dog Sgt. Cooper. Cpl. Wiens was a dog handler and Sgt. Cooper, a military working dog. They both lost their lives in 2007 after an IAD detonated in 2007.
Throughout our history, animals have helped our soldiers, and they have lived together, worked together, and died together. Today is memorial day. And today we need to also remember the bond our soldiers share with their animals, who are also fighting to help protect our soldiers and try to get them home. We say thanks to our soldiers who have fought and lost their lives for the freedom that we frequently take for granted.
