Last Sunday a rabid bat was found in Laguna Nigel. It is the second rabid bat found this year (eleven were found last year). Luckily, no pets or humans were affected.
If your cat or dog is found in proximity to a rabid animal (most likely a rabid bat or skunk) and not current on rabies vaccination, they can be euthanized or impounded with quarantine at owner’s expense. If exposed, your pet will die from the disease. Humans can survive with treatment if given in time.
Please, don’t neglect this important vaccine. Cats receive this vaccine (Merial Purevax-non-adjuvanted only please) annually. Dog’s receive a vaccine at 16 weeks, a year later, and every 3 years thereafter (this vaccine is required by law.) Please, keep your pets vaccinated.
