Dogs in Orange County and around the world cannot communicate to you that they are not feeling well. They cannot describe their symptoms to you so it is up to you to be aware of the changes that may happen. There could be a wide range of signs that your dog may be ill.
Your dog may show signs through behavioral changes, breathing problems, external appearance, abdominal issues, neurological signs, pain, fever, and/or loss of consciousness. Some signs may be subtle little hints of an outlying illness with your pet. Extreme problems may have a multitude of signs that come on slowly or all of a sudden. When in question on the health of your pet, contact your vet.
Behavior changes that you may look for that could show some concern are irritability or agitation, withdrawal, or being needy or clingy. Sleeping more than normal, change in activity, or urinating in the house (for an inside dog) could be cause for concern.

Changes in external appearance can be an indication of potential problems for your pet. New sores or sudden change to old ones such as oozing or fresh blood. Rash, hair loss, or a persistent itch may be may be a cause for concern.
Abdominal issues that may be a clue of concerns could be steady vomiting or diarrhea for more than 24 hours. Loss of appetite, bloody stool, and pain in the abdominal region may also be a clue that there could be a problem.
Neurological signs that may demonstrate that there is cause for concern could be weakness, disorientation, agitation, or stumbling. Loss of consciousness or fever above 103 degrees should always be a concern and you should contact your local vet for a visit.
